We’ve been really busy at Seeds of Hope working on writing
detailed proposals of our plans for the next year. We’ve included in this update a sheet that is an overview of all the projects we’ve done and what we’re building towards this coming year. Please use this sheet to pray for us and to share about SHIP with your friends. Last year Zambia had the worst floods in fifty years; this year they’re looking at the worst in 100 years. Most of the areas we’re working in are being severely hit. Just like last year, many houses in Mapalo are collapsing because the buildings are made with just packed dirt. In spite of all this, the encouraging thing is that our Resource Center in Mapalo is really taking shape. We have begun new classes to give skills to the adults in the community such as, sewing, literacy, handcrafts, and making stronger blocks for buildings. We have also started preschool and first grade classes to address the incredible need among the younger children.

A well in Makenzi serving a community of 10,000 people. This is our third well there and we are also doing hygiene, sanitation, and bio sand filters in this community

Seeds of Hope has just been invited by the White House office of FaithBased Community Initiatives to attend a conference that they are putting on in Zambia for their partners. Kirk is flying to Lusaka April 1st to attend this event to meet and network with other organizations working throughout Zambia. (http://www.whitehouse.gov/government/fbci/ ) This is quite an honor to be asked to participate in this conference and we look forward to the opportunity to see other programs that are working successfully as well as share about what SHIP is doing. We appreciate your prayers for this conference. The director of the office of Faith Based Community initiatives will be there as well as the first Lady of Zambia. Kirk knows several people at this event and we are praying for additional contacts.

This sand filter has changed the life of Sharon Shamukombwe, a mother of five in Makenzi.

TRAININGS IN ZAMBIA
We are having teams from several organizations come in and conduct trainings for our staff in Zambia. Last month, the first team of Ray Newmyer, Tim Cleath, and Steve Bockemeier with Lifewater International did an advanced drill training with our drill crews. Ray is very impressed with our team and commented that the leader, BJ, is an excellent driller. Another Lifewater team, Adam Feffer and Christy Williams recently came and trained our office staff in monitoring, evaluation, organizational development. Tal Woolsey and Melinda from CAWST International were also in Zambia this month doing advanced sand filter trainings. Our sand filter crews have been able to catch up with the installation of all the sand filters we have produced. A nurse from a local clinic went and tested several of the wells and sand filters in Mapalo area and came back with a glowing report about how well the sand filters were cleaning the water. The sand filters are making a significant difference in the health of this community especially with the flooding that usually brings wide spread. Evans and Melinda also led a sand filter training in Lusaka the capital, which was attended by several big organizations. Currently we have another team from Lifewater International doing sanitation training and constructing latrines. Peter Reimer is also in Zambia this month continuing to train in Farming God’s Way at our agricultural sites. Thanks to funding from Impact Missions Inc, we have classes starting at our Resource Center in sewing, handcrafts, and literacy. We are also very blessed to have Jerry Bean in Zambia for several months facilitating all these teams and doing administrative work in all of our project areas. His help on the ground has been invaluable.

NEWS BREAK!!!!
The Blood:Water Mission Thousand Wells Committee has unanimously approved our request to help us buy and ship two larger drill rigs to Zambia. These drill rigs will be the next step for SHIP’s well drilling ministry training center. This is anamazing gift that will bring our drilling team and capacity to anew level. We are so grateful for our smaller cable tool rigs, they have been able to help bring clean water to over 175,000 people and we will continue to use them to train additional teams. The potential of these four rigs working together will be amazing! We are extremely thankful and will be updating you along the way!
Truck fundraising: We are just over halfway in raising funds for a much needed truck. Thank you!
