The Centre for Affordable Water and Sanitation Technology, or CAWST, is a Canada-based training organization providing education and expertise for those serving the poor in developing countries.CAWST is promoting bio sand filters throughout the world and has been an instrumental part of SHIP’s program in Zambia. Their research in this area has been immensely helpful. The continued training provided by CAWST both locally and in Zambia has enabled our bio sand filter program to become successful in bringing clean water into homes where it is desperately needed. Long time partners Tal and Adele Woolsey of CAWST have committed to building the capacity of our bio-sand filter program and we are incredibly grateful for their continued investment of time and energy working with our staff in Zambia.
CAWST has now entered into a significant contract with the Canada International Development Agency (CIDA) to allow Seeds of Hope to become a Center of Expertise for Africa in water, sanitation, and hygiene training and promotion. This gives us the ability to expand our training of other organizations in household water treatment methods. Already this contract has enabled our Zambian staff to travel to Sierra Leone, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe to conduct bio-sand filter training. We are excited that the contract has also provided for the establishment of a small water testing laboratory, equipping us with further knowledge to help prevent the spread of disease. The partnership of CAWST is invaluable in our work in Zambia, helping to exponentially increase the spread of clean water and hope throughout Africa.
